Whether it’s tax planning or tax controversy, Jared Garfield helps clients stay compliant with U.S. tax laws to avoid penalties & maximize their interests. 

As a law clerk at Hone Maxwell LLP, Jared supports the attorneys by researching tax law, determining how the law applies to the client’s circumstances & communicating that information to the attorneys & clients. While Jared is working toward his law degree at the University of San Diego School of Law, he already has extensive experience in business & finance. He worked as an individual retirement account specialist, assisting customers with managing their financings & developing techniques to de-escalate challenging situations. 

Jared previously worked as an intern at the Taxpayers’ Rights Advocates Office in San Diego on the Tax Appeals Assistance Program, where he conducted legal & factual research to help people with their California state tax appeals.

Josh Maxwell brings a unique blend of finance & law to his practice as a tax attorney, focusing on international tax law & controversy. An attorney & CPA with an extensive accounting & finance background, 

Josh helps clients navigate the underlying issues & transactions related to tax plans & has a winning record representing taxpayers before taxing authorities. Josh handles international tax & federal, state & local tax issues, particularly civil & criminal tax controversy defense. He advises clients on a variety of international tax issues including the Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Program (OVDP), the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), treaties & IRS informational reporting. 

Josh’s experience in public accounting with a strong international focus & education as both a CPA & attorney allows him to understand the underlying issues & transactions when preparing tax plans or defending taxpayers in front of the taxing authorities.

Ophelia is a seasoned business consultant who successfully and profitably exited two business start-ups in her early 30s. With a strong foundation in business strategy and succession planning, she specialises in designing and administering compensation and retention tools, as well as advising on buy-sell agreements.

She is also trained and certified in estate planning. A personal medical crisis in 2013, when she was diagnosed with a highly aggressive and rare cancer, deepened her focus on financial planning structures for both personal and business succession.

With over 15 years of experience in specialist recruitment, Ophelia has built and led multiple high-performing teams across Asia. She has played a pivotal role in developing recruitment teams from the ground up, eventually transitioning fully operational units to incoming general managers. Her work has included delivering tailored recruitment solutions for major corporations, including oil majors, and managing tax and mobility planning alongside exclusive recruitment campaigns.

She is passionate about mentoring, continuous learning, innovation, and thought-provoking dialogue. In addition to her consultancy work, she is a strong advocate for the disadvantaged workforce and is committed to expanding employment opportunities for underrepresented groups.

Her areas of expertise include financial and business advisory, compensation and benefits structures, estate planning, partnership advisory, business development, buy-sell agreements, business succession planning, personal financial planning, and recruitment business consultancy.
